How to Change Your Life in One Day

In the film, The Wizard of Oz, Glinda the Good Witch of the North, tells Dorothy, “You always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself”. Or in other words, Dorothy just had to look within.
I believe what Glinda said applies to all of us: We all have the power to get where we want to go, because it’s within our power at any moment of any day to make huge transformations in the way we view things and to alter the course of our lives. Whether you realise it or not, you have complete control over your internal world.
While it’s true that external shifts like really big life changes might not happen in a day, internal shifts can happen in a matter of moments. Of course, we cannot control the big things that happen outside of our lives, but we can control how we react to them, and how we control our inner lives.
Everything starts in our minds and you have the power to make the magic shifts required that can change everything in your life, starting today ….
Here are a few steps to radically transform your life in no time at all!
Decide to Change your Mood!
Make a decision to let go of anger, frustration, boredom and negativity today. Decide to adopt a more positive way of thinking. In order to keep this decision in the forefront of your consciousness, remind yourself by wearing something you don’t normally wear – a ring, a scarf, or placing a sticker on your computer, or an ornament on your desk.
Every time you notice it, repeat an affirmation such as “Today I choose to keep my thoughts positive and direct my energy towards happiness and peace.”
Count your Blessings!
Take a few moments to really appreciate all that is around you and give thanks for it. Nothing is too large or too small. Give thanks for all the wonderful things you have in your life.
When you do this you automatically raise your vibrational frequency to a higher level and you’ll attract more abundance and happiness. Repeat an affirmation such as “Thank you for all the beauty in my life.”
Consciously Enjoy Life!
Today, find a reason to be joyous and childlike. For example, as I write this article, today is Earth Day and we’re being asked to go outside and photograph ourselves amongst the cherry blossom that’s so abundant at this time of the year and share it on social media. It not only lifts our spirits, but others too!
Affirmation: “I remember to seek out joyous experiences each day!”
Learn Something New!
We can call get stuck in a rut or in our comfort zone – so today commit yourself to doing something different – it doesn’t have to be something major – it could be a new recipe, a different walk to work, a different routine at the gym, calling someone you don’t know very well to forge a new friendship ….
But when you break out of your repetitive behaviours and decide to do something different, you refresh the energy in your life – you give the Universe the message that you are open to new experiences and you create the right atmosphere for bigger changes to appear!
Affirmation: “I’m excited to try new things and open myself up to even more!”
Commit to Doing a Good Deed Each Day!
Doing something out of the goodness of your heart not only has the potential to make the world a happier place, it will also boost your own personal feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness, positivity & optimism!
Doing good makes us feel better! That sensation is known as ‘Helper’s High’ and is produced when your brain releases endorphins – the feel good chemicals of the brain. And doing good will motivate you to do good again! Doing good promotes mental health, improved well-being & life satisfaction! What a lovely way to change your life – Altruistically benefiting yourself and others!
Affirmation: “I actively seek out ways to help others!”
Honouring Your Whole Self
Remember that your mind, body & spirit are all connected and decide to make mindful choices & decisions about what you consume – not only food & drink, but also include thoughts, people you spend time with and activities.
Commit to feeling amazing physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually every day by choosing thoughts and making decisions that nurture & nourish your wellbeing and give you happiness & peace of mind. Support yourself by shaking up your routine, moving differently, drinking more water, going to bed earlier, meditating, listening to podcasts …
Affirmation: “I look after myself on all levels”.
Allow Yourself to Daydream!
Many of us feel that we need to fill every minute of our lives in a way that will fulfil a purpose – be that work, reading, watching tv, chatting, relaxing in some way – even if we go on a walk, we often take our busy minds with us and can get caught up in our thoughts. Prayer and meditation also have a purpose.
What I am suggesting here is that you decide to give your mind free flow with regards to some change you would like to make in your life.
Perhaps it’s something you want to achieve, something you’d like to create. So rather than sitting down with pen & paper to write your Action Plan, set yourself some time to daydream – allow your mind to grasp the concept of what it is you want, and then simply let your mind to wander where it will.
Daydreaming has been described as the mind’s incubator. When we’re very focused on something, the possibility of the mind reaching into its reservoir and making an “Aha!” diminishes. In daydreaming there’s no controlling censor to whisper “That’s ridiculous!” or “That’ll never happen!” Many of our greatest thinkers, (including Einstein), musicians, poets etc produced their best work by letting their minds wander!
Affirmation: “I choose to dedicate time to honouring my dreams!”
